What do you want to do with your life?
In previous generations, the question has always been, “What are you going to study?” More and more, however, we are moving away from traditionally defined job roles following on from a predefined field of study.
Our parents studied engineering to become an engineer or a BCom degree to work as a businessman or in marketing. With the rise of social media and the democratization of technology, more people are doing jobs that either didn’t exist ten years ago or that people have never heard of. And this rate of change is set to increase even more.
Today’s engineering graduates are becoming AI programmers or Big Data engineers, Banks and Finance Companies are recruiting outside the BCom sphere and even BA students are starting to find a more sustainable home in Creative Design, Social Media Management, Career Development, and even coaching.
The fact of the matter is that the world of work is changing all the time, which is why we rather want to ask the question… “What do you want to do with your life?” and not, “what are you going to study?”
We want to know:
- What lifestyle do you want?
- Where in the world do you want to work?
- What passions do you have that you want to fulfill?
- What skills do you have or do you want to develop?
- What excites you?
- What will your parents pay for?
